VISIONS BY PEOPLE ABOUT MATERIAL CULTURES is a cross-cultural, research-driven platform investigating contemporary material culture through interdisciplinary perspectives. Published biannually, the magazine brings together critical essays, visual studies, practitioner interviews and analytical case studies to explore the evolving roles of materials in society.
Our editorial approach positions materials as active contributors to human and non-human worlds, as well as to cultural, technological, socioeconomic and environmental developments. By presenting diverse research and practice-based insights, VISIONS BY seeks to expand the discourse on materiality and offer a space for informed reflection and debate within the contemporary landscape.
Beyond the editorial format, VISIONS BY also explores material cultures through curatorial and exhibition projects, films, educational initiatives and other collaborative formats. These parallel activities extend the platform’s research into public and experiential spaces, broadening how materiality can be encountered, questioned and understood.
VISIONS BY has been presented at international universities, educational institutions and cultural venues such as Harvard GSD (Boston), Central Saint Martins and London College of Communication (UAL, London), Institute for advanced Architecture of Catalonia (IAAC, Barcelona), RMIT University Melbourne (Melbourne, Australia), Pascual Bravo University in Medellín (Colombia), Museumsquartier Bern (Switzerland), Sónar+D (Barcelona), Rhode Island School of Design (EEUU), Victoria&Albert Museum (London), CCCB and DHUB (Barcleona), among others.
In 2023, VISIONS BY received a Jury Special Mention at the “Premis Ciutat de Barcelona 2023” (2023 City of Barcelona Awards) in the architecture, urbanism and design category.
